In a move to bolster Ghana’s economic transformation through enhanced international trade and export development, the Ghana Export-Import Bank (GEXIM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Saudi Export-Import Bank. The agreement was formalized at the 2025 African Development Bank (AfDB) Annual Meetings in Côte d’Ivoire by GEXIM’s CEO, Hon. Sylvester A. Mensah, and his Saudi counterpart, His Excellency Saad Alkhalb.

The MoU outlines a comprehensive partnership between the two financial institutions aimed at promoting bilateral trade, sharing best practices, and enhancing institutional capacities. It also includes provisions for project financing, extending credit lines, and issuing transactional guarantees to support trade and economic activities between Ghana and Saudi Arabia.

Mr. Mensah emphasized that the collaboration is aligned with GEXIM’s mission to catalyze Ghana’s economic transformation. He described the agreement as a strategic move to facilitate export promotion, knowledge sharing, and access to funding. The MoU is expected to empower Ghanaian businesses and create new avenues for Saudi investment in Ghana.

Additionally, the GEXIM CEO revealed the bank’s four-year strategic focus, which prioritizes increased food production, agro-processing, and investments that stimulate job creation—particularly in agriculture and the garment and apparel sector. He underscored that this focus is in line with President John Mahama’s vision of building an export-led, resilient economy.

His Excellency Saad Alkhalb reaffirmed Saudi EXIM’s commitment to fully implementing the agreement, noting the importance of fostering stronger economic ties between Saudi Arabia and Ghana. Both leaders expressed optimism that the partnership will unlock mutual trade opportunities and contribute significantly to their countries’ development goals.
