Tullow Ghana Resumes Gas Supply to Atuabo After FPSO Technical Glitch

Tullow Ghana has officially resumed gas exports to the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant after addressing a technical issue on the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah. The temporary halt occurred over the weekend when the gas system on the floating production vessel tripped, prompting a thorough investigation by Tullow’s technical team. Fortunately, the issue was quickly identified and resolved.

According to a statement released by the company on Tuesday, the gas export operations restarted on Monday, May 12, with approximately 100 million standard cubic feet of gas per day now being delivered to Atuabo. This is expected to significantly support the country’s domestic energy needs and help stabilize power generation, easing the burden on other energy sources.

The FPSO Kwame Nkrumah has been a key piece of infrastructure in Ghana’s offshore oil and gas sector since 2010. It not only produces oil—up to 120,000 barrels per day—but also handles about 160 million standard cubic feet of gas daily. Named after Ghana’s first president, the vessel has become central to the operations of the Jubilee oil field.

Earlier this year, Tullow and its partners conducted a 16-day planned maintenance shutdown of the Jubilee Field. This was done to boost long-term efficiency and ensure the safety of operations. During that period, gas was temporarily sourced from the TEN fields to keep Ghana’s energy supply steady.

Tullow Ghana has reassured the public and stakeholders of its ongoing commitment to reliable and safe production practices. The company remains a critical contributor to Ghana’s energy infrastructure and is actively working to minimize disruptions while strengthening the country’s energy security.
