Opera has officially launched its MiniPay app for digital dollars on both iOS and Android platforms, providing a user-friendly, low-cost stablecoin wallet powered by the Celo blockchain. MiniPay allows users worldwide to send, receive, and spend dollar-pegged cryptocurrencies instantly, making it an accessible tool for those seeking simple financial solutions outside traditional banking systems.

Initially integrated into the Opera browser, MiniPay rapidly gained traction with over 7 million wallets across more than 50 countries. Following its standalone Android app launch in late 2024, which brought in another million downloads, the recent iOS release now opens the app to a broader user base, independent of the browser.

MiniPay was developed in partnership with the Celo Foundation to provide a mobile-first solution that breaks down the barriers to blockchain-based finance. It facilitates fast, fee-free cross-border transactions using stablecoins like Tether’s USDT, addressing the growing global demand for reliable remittance and travel-friendly financial tools.

According to Opera’s EVP Mobile, Jørgen Arnsen, the app is designed to deliver a truly accessible and affordable alternative to conventional savings and payment systems. Its “Pockets” feature, created alongside Mento Labs, allows users to swap between supported stablecoins at no cost, enhancing flexibility for a variety of financial needs.

As international travel and remote work continue to rise, MiniPay positions itself as a digital wallet tailored for the modern nomad. With features supporting local spending, bill payments, and eSIM services, the app aims to simplify how users manage their digital assets across borders, especially in emerging markets like Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia.
