The Federal Government has announced plans to resume payments for the outstanding five months of N35,000 wage award arrears to its workers. This payment is part of an agreement with the organized labor aimed at alleviating the hardship caused by the removal of fuel subsidies. The wage award is a significant part of the federal government’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare.
According to a statement from the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF), the payments will be made in five-month installments. The first installment will be paid after the April 2025 salary is disbursed, with the arrears not included in the April salary itself. The OAGF clarified that the wage award arrears would be handled separately, ensuring that federal workers receive the full amount owed.
The Federal Government had already paid five months’ worth of wage awards in the past, and the outstanding arrears are now set to be paid in installments. This payment is part of broader efforts by the government to fulfill its commitments to staff remuneration and welfare, especially in light of recent economic challenges.
The OAGF reiterated the government’s commitment to fully implementing all agreements related to staff remuneration. This move is expected to enhance productivity and improve the morale of federal workers as the government continues to address the economic impacts of fuel subsidy removal.
