The ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID) has appointed Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, Ghana’s Minister of Finance, as the new Chairman of its Board of Governors. His appointment was confirmed at the Bank’s 23rd Ordinary Session on April 14, 2025, in Banjul, The Gambia. Forson succeeds Seedy Keita, The Gambia’s Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, who previously held the role.
Dr. Forson brings a wealth of experience to the position, particularly in macroeconomics, fiscal policy, and finance. With over 20 years in both the public and private sectors, he is well-versed in tax administration and has a background as a chartered accountant. His leadership is seen as a valuable asset to EBID as it continues its mission to drive economic development across West Africa.
Speaking on his behalf, Ghana’s Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Ampem emphasized Forson’s commitment to advancing the bank’s goals. Forson’s priorities include accelerating resource mobilization, improving capital recovery, and expanding EBID’s outreach to non-regional members. The Deputy Minister also stressed the focus on reinforcing EBID’s role as the leading development finance institution in the region.
EBID, established over four decades ago, has evolved into a major regional institution committed to addressing the socio-economic challenges of West African countries through financial support for both public and private sector projects. Under Forson’s leadership, the bank is poised to further its impact, particularly as West African nations seek sustainable financing solutions to stimulate growth.
