The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has confirmed that it will keep the cocoa producer price unchanged for the 2025/2026 season. This decision was made after a thorough review of the financial and operational impacts on the cocoa industry in Ghana. In a letter addressed to the Licensed Cocoa Buyers’ Association of Ghana (LICOBAG), COCOBOD emphasized the importance of stability for the long-term sustainability of the country’s cocoa sector.
As of now, the producer price stands at GH₵3,100 per 64kg bag, a modest increase of 0.03% compared to the previous rate set in September for the 2024/2025 season. This adjustment, amounting to GH₵49,600 per tonne, aligns with current market conditions and aims to provide additional support for cocoa farmers in Ghana.
Despite Côte d’Ivoire’s recent decision to raise its cocoa prices, COCOBOD is holding its ground for now. The board acknowledged the price increase in its neighboring country but hinted that a future review of the pricing structure, including fees and margins for stakeholders, could be conducted for the upcoming season.
This decision also occurs within the framework of the joint Cocoa Initiative between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire. Together, these two nations account for over 60% of the world’s cocoa production, and the initiative is focused on coordinating pricing strategies to better safeguard the incomes of cocoa farmers in both countries.
