A new global survey by Ipsos and Google reveals that Nigeria’s online population is leading in Artificial Intelligence (AI). The study titled Our Life with AI: From Innovation to Application, surveyed 21,000 people across 21 countries and found that 70% of Nigerian respondents have used generative AI, significantly higher than the global average of 48%. Additionally, 87% of Nigerians believe AI’s benefits outweigh its risks, reflecting strong optimism about its potential impact on various sectors.

The report highlights the growing confidence in AI’s role in economic, scientific, and medical advancements among Nigerians. An overwhelming 90% of respondents expect AI to positively impact science and medicine, and 81% foresee AI-driven economic improvements. The Nigerian online community appears more open to AI-driven innovation than many European and North American regions, where caution remains prevalent.

Google, a key player in AI development, continues to advocate for responsible AI adoption. Since 2018, the company has upheld AI principles that emphasize beneficial use and harm avoidance. The survey underscores Nigeria’s position as one of the most enthusiastic nations about AI, with widespread belief in its potential to drive productivity, professional growth, and technological advancements.
