FG unveils plans to generate $100 billion annually from creative economy

The Federal Government of Nigeria has unveiled a comprehensive plan aimed at generating $100 billion annually and creating over two million jobs in the country’s creative economy.

Minister of Art, Culture, and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, presented this ambitious plan during a roundtable for local and international investors.

The plan, if fully implemented, has the potential to significantly boost the creative sector, which currently contributes only $5 billion to the economy.

The creative industry includes several sub-sectors such as music, visual media (movies, TV shows, podcasts), visual arts and crafts, heritage and museums, fashion, publishing, culinary arts, and video gaming.

To drive growth and unlock the sector’s potential, the ministry has identified 14 key initiatives grouped under four strategic pillars: Technology, Infrastructure and Funding, International Culture Promotion, and Intellectual Property Monetization.

Musawa noted that with the right measures in place, Nigeria’s creative economy could grow by 400% by 2027. This strategy aims to position the country for long-term success and higher contributions to GDP, which currently lags behind other African nations like
