Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has announced that the country is committed to achieving universal energy access by 2060, with an interim goal of reaching 30 gigawatts of grid energy supply by 2030.
Speaking at the China-Nigeria Economic Cooperation and Trade Conference in Beijing, he highlighted that Nigeria’s “Vision 30:30:30” aims to generate 30% of this energy from renewable sources.
This, he emphasized, presents an opportunity for greater collaboration between Nigeria and China’s investment community to push for more sustainable energy solutions.
The minister detailed that the Nigerian government has taken a multi-pronged approach to address the challenges facing the power sector.
This includes improving legislative frameworks, leveraging both public and private investment, adopting innovative technologies, and building strategic partnerships to ensure the success of the sector.
He believes these steps are essential to set the country on the path to a sustainable and reliable power supply.Adelabu further noted that the China-Nigeria Economic Forum serves as a platform to strengthen the partnership between both nations.
He expressed optimism that the ongoing collaborations will bring about shared prosperity, particularly in areas related to cleaner and more sustainable energy access for Nigeria’s growing population.
