The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has uncovered a shocking case where over 100,000 Subscriber Identification Modules (SIM) cards were linked to a single individual.

This discovery was made through a collaborative effort with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

In a statement released by Reuben Muoka, NCC’s Director of Public Affairs, the Commission announced September 14, 2024, as the final deadline for linking National Identification Numbers (NINs) to SIM cards.

The NCC emphasized its ongoing commitment to work with security agencies to curb the sale of pre-registered SIMs, which pose significant risks to national security.

The NCC also issued a stern reminder to the public that the sale and purchase of pre-registered SIMs are criminal offenses, urging citizens to report any such activities.

The Commission provides a toll-free line (622) and social media platforms for reporting violations.
