The Federal Government announced that the initial sale of 50 kg bags of rice at N40,000 will first be directed to public servants before being extended to other regions.
This announcement was made by the Minister of Agriculture, Senator Abubakar Kyari, during an interview on Channels TV.
Kyari highlighted that public servants have a reliable data system, ensuring proper documentation and preventing abuse of the food distribution intervention.
He emphasized the use of systems like the National Identification Number (NIN) to maintain transparency and accountability.
Eventually, the rice will be distributed to all states for equitable access.
Earlier reports from the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, revealed that this initiative is part of several measures by the Tinubu administration to alleviate living conditions.
Despite these efforts, food inflation remains high, with the Nigeria Bureau of Statistics reporting a 40.87% year-on-year increase in June 2024.
