The Presidential Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Initiative has opened conversion centres in Abuja to accelerate the switch from petrol and diesel vehicles to CNG. The launch was monitored by officials from the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation and the Presidential CNG Initiative. Mrs. Omolara Obileye, Coordinator of Business Development and Strategy, stated that the initiative aims to reduce fuel dependency. Starting in Abuja and Lagos, the program will gradually expand to other states, with regular announcements as new centres open. Private car owners will pay a fraction of the conversion cost, while transport associations will receive free conversions. The cost varies based on vehicle size. Currently, there are over 12 conversion centres in Abuja, including NIPCO Oil and Gas Station, Kia Motors, Mijo Gas Auto, and ABG CNG, with plans to increase the number further.
