Deadly Fire at South Korean Lithium Battery Plant

A fire broke out at a lithium battery manufacturing plant in Hwaseong, South Korea, on Monday, resulting in multiple fatalities. The blaze, largely extinguished, started around 10:30 a.m.

following a series of battery cell explosions in a warehouse containing 35,000 units.Initial reports from Yonhap news agency indicated around 20 bodies were found. However, local fire official Kim Jin-young later confirmed nine deaths and four injuries, with two people in critical condition.

The factory is operated by battery manufacturer Aricell, located south of the capital Seoul. Authorities are investigating the cause of the explosion and subsequent fire.
