The Lagos State Government will create an Aviation Unit within the Ministry of Transportation to enhance oversight of the aviation sector as part of the new Lagos State Transport Policy. The unit, to be established within the next two years, aims to improve policy implementation, facilitate collaboration with federal and private sectors, and monitor aviation’s economic, social, and environmental impacts on Lagos.
The Transport Policy also outlines plans for an international airport in Lekki, driven by a partnership with the private sector. This new airport will support the rapidly developing Lekki Peninsula, benefiting residents, industries, and tourists in the area. It will also provide a more convenient travel option for international travelers from nearby states.
The Lagos State Government aims to promote private sector involvement in the airport’s financing, construction, and operation within the next two years. Additionally, the government will explore the feasibility of the Lekki Airport under a Public-Private Partnership model over the next two to five years.
