Nigeria’s Foreign Minister, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, highlighted Nigeria’s stance on managing economic competition between global powers like the United States, China, and Russia.

In a recent interview during his visit to the US, Tuggar emphasized Nigeria’s strategic approach in engaging with these nations while maintaining its independence. Despite economic rivalries, Nigeria aims to foster partnerships without aligning with one country against others, particularly in light of recent discussions on foreign military bases in Nigeria.

Following the recent US-Nigeria Binational Commission meetings, both countries expressed a commitment to expanding trade and investment ties. The US delegation welcomed Nigeria’s four-pronged policy approach focusing on democracy, development, demography, and diaspora. Acknowledging Nigeria’s proposals, the US highlighted its support through initiatives like the United States International Development Finance Corporation’s substantial portfolio in Nigeria, emphasizing mutual efforts to enhance bilateral relations and economic cooperation.
