The family of Abimbola Ogunbanjo, former Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX Group), has initiated a wrongful death lawsuit against US-based Orbic Air LLC, the charter company responsible for the helicopter involved in the fatal crash in Southern California in February. Ogunbanjo, along with four others, tragically lost their lives in the accident.
The lawsuit accuses Orbic Air of negligence, alleging that the company operated the helicopter despite hazardous weather conditions, including snow and rain, in the Mojave Desert on February 9th. Ogunbanjo’s family contends that the flight should have been grounded due to the perilous weather conditions.
Seeking a jury trial and unspecified damages, including compensation for burial and funeral expenses, the lawsuit was filed in San Bernardino County Superior Court by the Los Angeles law firm Robb & Robb. Andrew C. Robb, one of the attorneys representing Ogunbanjo’s family, emphasized the preventable nature of the flight, asserting that helicopters are ill-equipped to handle snow and ice conditions. The family seeks answers and accountability regarding the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
