The Federal Government has announced the commencement of testing on the 700 megawatts Zungeru Hydroelectric Power Plant, located in Niger State. Contrary to some claims, the $1.3 billion project has been successfully connected to the national grid.

Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, confirmed the connectivity of the Zungeru Hydroelectric Power Plant to the grid while addressing industry inquiries. The plant, with its capacity to generate 700MW, ranks as the second-largest hydroelectric facility in Nigeria, after the Kainji Dam.

Analysts anticipate that the project will significantly enhance Nigeria’s power generation capacity and contribute to economic development in the region.

Adelabu further clarified that the Zungeru Hydroelectric Power Plant has been completed, and its concession process has been finalized.
