Leadership dispute emerges at Eko DisCo

A dispute over leadership has arisen at the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), with conflicting statements regarding the status of its former Managing Director (MD), Dr. Tinuade Sanda.

While the company’s Board Chairman announced a change in leadership, EKEDC’s legal director clarified that the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) did not call for Sanda’s dismissal.

According to Babor Egeregor, the company’s director, NERC’s directive did not explicitly demand the removal of any staff, including Sanda. Egeregor denounced the decision to sack Sanda as “vengeful revenge” stemming from her efforts to address alleged fraud within the company. Additionally, he noted that a board member representing the government via BPE opposed Sanda’s removal.

However, a source within NERC, speaking anonymously, explained that the directive aimed to sanitize Discos from parent company influence. While NERC currently refrains from intervening, continued crisis within EKEDC could prompt regulatory action if its directives are not adhered to.
