Kenya resolves its oil importation row with Uganda – report

Kenya’s Energy Minister, Davis Chirchir, has announced that Kenya will permit Uganda’s state oil firm, UNOC (Uganda National Oil Company), to import petroleum products through its port of Mombasa.

This decision aims to resolve a diplomatic dispute between the two neighboring countries and provide Uganda with alternative options for importing petroleum products.Uganda has been exploring various avenues for importing petroleum, including through Tanzanian ports, to diversify its sources.

Previously, Ugandan oil retailers obtained their cargo through affiliated firms in Kenya. Minister Chirchir’s statement signals a shift towards collaboration and mutual benefit between Kenya and Uganda.Under the new arrangement, UNOC will utilize the Kenya Pipeline Company to transport the products, ensuring that Kenya remains involved and benefits from the agreement.
