In a shootout near the Kazungula border post in Matabeleland North province, Zimbabwe rangers have fatally shot two suspected poachers. According to Tinashe Farawo, spokesperson for the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (Zimparks), three other suspects were arrested, while one managed to escape during the incident on Tuesday.

Mr. Farawo reported that about 15 elephant tusks, a .375 rifle, and five rounds of ammunition were recovered from the scene. Investigations into the incident are currently underway to gather more information.

This event occurred just two months after six elephants were tragically killed by poisoning, with their tusks removed by suspected poachers in the Shangani Wildlife Conservancy near Hwange National Park. Wildlife conservationists are advocating for stronger regulations against poaching in Zimbabwe to protect the country’s precious wildlife.
