The U.S. House of Representatives has overwhelmingly passed a bill targeting TikTok’s Chinese owner, ByteDance, giving them six months to divest the app’s U.S. assets or face a ban. The bipartisan vote of 352-65 marks the greatest threat to TikTok since the Trump administration, with concerns over national security driving the legislation. However, the bill’s future in the Senate remains uncertain, as some senators prefer a different approach to regulating foreign-owned apps. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer announced that the Senate would review the legislation, indicating a potential divergence in opinions. Shou Zi Chew, responded to the bill, warning that its enactment would result in a ban on TikTok in the United States. He emphasized the potential financial impact on creators and small businesses, highlighting the stakes involved in the ongoing legislative debate.
