The Nigerian Navy has announced the acquisition of two advanced offshore patrol vessels from Dearsan Shipyard in Turkey, aimed at enhancing maritime security. Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, Chief of Naval Staff, revealed this development during a lecture at the Naval Warfare Course 8 in Calabar.

In his address titled ‘Vision and Mission for the Nigerian Navy,’ Vice Admiral Ogalla highlighted that the vessels are part of the navy’s fleet renewal initiative. The primary goal of this policy is to ensure a robust and continuous presence in the country’s exclusive economic zones, thus safeguarding maritime interests.

Additionally, the naval shipyard is currently constructing 20 houseboats for operations in brown water areas, further reinforcing maritime defense capabilities. Vice Admiral Ogalla emphasized that these efforts are crucial for defending Nigeria’s maritime interests and security. He also mentioned plans for fleet renewal, including short, medium, and long-term strategies, which include the acquisition of combat helicopters and military drones to strengthen naval operations.
