Allegations of fraud within the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development continue to escalate as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) investigating the issue has uncovered a new fraud amounting to N17 billion linked to the ministry.

Originally focused on probing an alleged N585 million fraud that led to the suspension of Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Betta Edu, EFCC officials were surprised to discover additional cases totaling N17 billion during their investigation. Investigators are intensifying efforts to unravel the alleged fraud and have interrogated the suspended minister regarding the new findings.

It reported that Shehu, the suspended minister, has been cooperating with investigators, and a substantial portion of the N37 billion traced to Umar-Farouk, another official implicated in the scandal, has been recovered. According to a source, Shehu claimed to have taken preemptive measures to safeguard the funds from being misappropriated by certain entities.
