Lord Jacob Rothschild, a prominent financier and member of the esteemed Rothschild banking family, has passed away at the age of 87, as confirmed by his family.
Beginning his career at NM Rothschild & Sons, the family bank, in 1963, Lord Rothschild went on to assume leadership roles in Rothschild Investment Trust and co-founded what is now known as St James’s Place. Hailing from the renowned Rothschild lineage, Lord Rothschild’s family boasts an estimated fortune of approximately £825 million, as per last year’s Sunday Times Rich List.
Renowned for their philanthropy, the Rothschilds have contributed significantly to Jewish causes, education, and the arts, with reported donations totaling £66 million. In a statement to the PA news agency, Lord Rothschild’s family commemorated his multifaceted legacy, describing him as a towering figure in the realms of finance, culture, and public service.
As per Jewish custom, Lord Rothschild will be laid to rest in a private family ceremony, with plans for a memorial service to honor his life and contributions to be held at a later date.
