Today, February 26, 2024, marks a historic moment for Aba as President Bola Tinubu commissions the Geometric power plant, the first integrated power plant in Nigeria, located at the Osisioma Industrial area of Aba.
Turbine 3 of the power plant was activated at 3:39 pm on Sunday, February 25, 2024, eliciting jubilation among Geometric Power engineers and their KS Energy counterparts.
Originally scheduled for inauguration on Saturday, February 24, 2024, the 181-megawatt Geometric Power plant signifies a significant milestone in Nigeria’s power sector. Aba Power Limited Electric, the newest electricity distribution company (DISCO) in Nigeria, will distribute electricity from the new plant to 9 out of the 17 Local Government Areas of Abia State.
Patrick Umeh, a former executive at the Los Angeles Water and Light in the United States and a former commissioner at the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), praised the tubular poles installed by Geometric Power in Aba and its environs, highlighting their unmatched quality in Africa.
