Joseph Boahen Aidoo, CEO of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), affirmed the organization’s dedication to offering cocoa farmers competitive prices as a strategy to address cocoa smuggling.

Speaking before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament, Aidoo emphasized that while collaboration with national security agencies has yielded positive outcomes in combating smuggling, ensuring favorable prices remains pivotal for long-term deterrence.

Despite notable arrests and seizures of smuggled cocoa, Aidoo emphasized that solely relying on enforcement measures is insufficient to address the underlying issue. Instead, he advocated for implementing new pricing mechanisms to effectively discourage illicit activities.

The CEO’s remarks highlight COCOBOD’s proactive approach to mitigating cocoa smuggling challenges by addressing economic incentives for farmers.
