FCTA Lists Embassies Owing $5.3 Million in Ground Rent

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) in Abuja, Nigeria, has published a list of 43 embassies and high commissions owing a total of $5.3 million in ground rent.

The list, categorized as “phase I – IV,” includes embassies from countries such as Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Korea, Russia, France, Iraq, Italy, Spain, Senegal, Algeria, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Zambia, and South Africa. Zambia and Niger Republic are among the countries with the highest outstanding rents, each standing at two million dollars.

The FCTA has given the defaulting diplomatic missions a two-week ultimatum to settle their outstanding ground rents or face the risk of having their titles revoked.

In addition to embassies, the list also includes companies and individuals collectively owing over N2 billion, according to the FCTA. The administration emphasizes the importance of timely payments for the effective funding of projects and infrastructure development in the territory.
