Nigerian Railway Corporation Initiates Reactivation of Old Routes

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has initiated the reactivation of old narrow gauge networks, with a focus on the Eastern line, currently in an advanced stage of preparation to resume operations.

The Eastern line, stretching from Port Harcourt to Maiduguri, has been identified as a crucial route by the Federal Government. Jerry Oche, the Director of Mechanical Services and Signal Communication at NRC, disclosed these developments, stating that immediate orders for repairs have been issued to facilitate the resumption of train services for passengers in the eastern part of the country.

Oche further revealed that the Lagos-Kano Express Train Service is set to resume in the first quarter of 2024. He emphasized that the NRC is committed in working diligently to restore the old narrow train route.
