This substantial amount, designated for vulnerable citizens during the tenure of former Minister Sadiya Umar-Farouq, had been targeted for transfer into private accounts but was intercepted by the ICPC between July and August 2023. The funds were subsequently handed over to the Federal Government led by President Bola Tinubu. In the latest developments, EFCC detectives questioned numerous high-ranking civil servants within the ministry, extracting valuable information to expose financial malfeasance. Notable figures, including the suspended Minister Betta Edu, former Minister Sadiya Umar-Farouq, and Halima Shehu, the suspended National Coordinator and CEO of the National Social Investment Programme, were also interrogated. The investigation sheds light on the depth of corruption within the ministry, unraveling a web of financial misconduct. In response to the ongoing probe, both the Peoples Democratic Party and Labour Party have called on anti-graft agencies to extend their investigations to all ministries, departments, and agencies involved in corrupt practices.
