Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCO) has extended an invitation to rig providers for a deepwater mobile drilling project in the Bonga fields, located on Oil Mining Licence (OML) 118.

The contract aims to facilitate well construction, maintenance, and abandonment activities and is expected to be awarded between the third quarter of 2025 and the second quarter of 2026.

SNEPCO, the operator of OML 118, collaborates with Nigerian Agip Oil Co. (NAOC), Total Energies Nigeria, and Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria (Deepwater) for this license.

The company is seeking a minimum sixth-generation self-propelled semi-submersible or drillship capable of operating in 5,000 feet of water and drilling to depths of 25,000 feet. Interested rig providers can apply until August 14.

SNEPCO and its partners renewed the license for OML 118 in May 2021. The Bonga FPSO, which began production in 2005, reached the milestone of 1 billion barrels produced in February 2023.
