Ahead of the inauguration of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and other elected government officials around the country on May 29, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Baba, has advised politicians and civilians against any conduct that could undermine Nigeria’s democracy.
The IGP stated at the news conference, “the imperative of peace in our national life cannot be overstated.”
“At this stage in our national democratic transition, maintaining peace and security is even more important. “To begin, the Nigeria Police Department thus issues a severe warning to all political players with subversive agendas and their accomplices, particularly their foot soldiers, whom they are exposing to political radicalization and violence.
To this end, he said “We shall undertake this task optimally and manifestly. Anybody that stands in the way will be identified, promptly isolated, and brought to deserved justice in the overriding interest of our national security and stable political order.
