FG Disconnects Discos from National Grid Over Debt.

Millions of electricity consumers could be plunged into darkness in the coming weeks as the federal government, through Nigeria’s transmission companies and market operators, began to massively disconnect debtor distribution companies from the national grid.

The development followed disconnect notices delivered by market operators at some discotheques. Since the MO became aware of this, power supplies have continued to decline nationwide, with many areas complaining of little or no coverage.

The decision was the result of bad remittance from customers. Areas affected by the quarantine are Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Kwara, and parts of Niger, Ekiti and Kogi states.

Punch.
