Following a meeting with Ministry of Aviation representatives, aviation unions have decided to call off their planned strike. The decision was announced in a statement that our correspondent in Abuja was able to receive on Monday.

The secretaries of the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers, Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals, Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, and Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees all joined forces to sign the statement.

According to the statement, the unions have decided to wait for the conclusion of the meeting scheduled for May 9 after taking into account the general interests of the aviation industry in the nation.

The meeting is to be held with the National Salaries and Wages and Commission, the Budget Office of the Federation, and the Ministry of Aviation.

This came barely one week after the unions threatened to embark on an indefinite industrial action over issues relating to the salaries and conditions of service of their members.

Punch.
