There are signs that university unions may protest the federal government for allegedly leaving their members out of the 40 percent salary increase for odd allowance and arrears.

However, because university employees are included in the salary increase, the Federal Government has stated that there is no need for concern.

The thought of denying university employees the salary increase is an invitation to crisis in the sector, according to Comrade Mohammed Ibrahim, President of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU).

Comrade Ibrahim claimed that the government had broken its promise to include the N50 billion in earned allowances in the deal it had with the unions.
