At the ongoing World Bank/IMF Spring Meetings in Washington, D.C., Ms. Georgieva expressed hope about the future of the nation, noting the growing support the nation was receiving from the international community, including its creditors.

The $3 billion request from Ghana was granted staff-level agreement (SLA) in December, but efforts to proceed past the last hurdle have been stymied by disagreements between the two sets of creditors regarding the specifics of the debt restructuring process.

To further stabilize the cedi, reduce inflationary pressures, and access the global capital market for loans to finance development, Ghana needs a deal. Therefore, the country’s 17th bailout programme after joining the IMF in September 1957.
