Between 2015 and April 2023, research revealed that over N20 billion was set aside for presidential committees under the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation’s supervision.

The amount the present administration spent on funding committees has drawn criticism from experts.
Charles Onunaiju, Research Director at the Centre for China Studies in Abuja, told our reporter that while committees were ad hoc vehicles to address changing challenges, most had just taken over the responsibilities of other organizations while failing to produce results.

Since taking office in 2015, President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (ret.) has established at least 40 committees and councils to advance various government agendas.

The committees represent a variety of industries, including those in the civil service, digital economy, security, health, and education.
