The deployment of 1,000 mini-grids to electrify rural towns around the nation was started by the federal government in collaboration with investors from the private sector.
Federal Government’s Rural Electrification Agency oversees the installation of mini-grids in rural areas because it provides funding to private sector mini-grid companies to promote off-grid energy development.
The Managing Director of REA, Ahmad Salihijo, said that over 1,000 mini-grids would be installed nationwide under the REF program and other off-grid initiatives while speaking at the Rural Electrification Fund Call-3 Bidders Workshop in Abuja.
REA continues to work to ensure that stakeholders not only see the potentials of the development of the off-grid sector, but that they also want to participate, strengthening their commercial positions in the process,” he said.
