Alhaji Idris Yahaya, the Yobe State Auditor General for local government, was given a five-year jail term for misappropriating N19.9 million in public monies by Judge Muhammad Lawu Lawan of the Yobe State High Court.

Yahaya was charged with one count of criminal misappropriation of N19,900,000 by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCCMaiduguri )’s Zonal Command.

The anti-graft organization said that Yahaya obtained funding from the state’s Office of the Auditor-General for Local Government and Emirate Affairs for the purchase of a 2015 Toyota Corolla for official usage, but instead used some of the funds for his own needs.

After the court’s decision on Monday, the EFCC released a statement confirming Yahaya’s conviction.
