Investors in stocks suffer a loss of N281 billion in a single week.

At the close of last week’s trading on the floor of the Nigerian Exchange Limited, stock investors lost N281 billion.

The market capitalization and NGX All-Share Index declined by 0.96 percent and 0.95 percent, respectively, to end the week at 53,804.46 and N29.310 trillion.

All other indices also ended lower, with the exception of the NGX Premium, NGX Insurance, NGX MERI Growth, NGX Consumer Goods, NGX Oil and Gas, NGX Industrial Goods, and NGX Growth indices, each of which rose by 0.54 percent, 1.18 percent, 0.44 percent, 0.67 percent, 0.91 percent, 0.06 percent, and 7.15 percent. The NGX reports that 36 stocks had price increases during the past week.

Investors transacted a total of 751.990 million shares worth N20.575 billion in 15,822 trades last week, down from a total of 944.293 million shares worth N22.710 billion that changed hands in 18,615 deals the week before.

With 508.517 million shares worth N6.212 billion exchanged in 6,877 deals, the Financial Services Sector dominated the activity chart in terms of volume, accounting for 67.62 percent and 30.19 percent, respectively, of the total stock turnover volume and value.
