Nigeria’s natural resources are underutilized, according to the minister. However, the mining industry has also been troubled by insecurity, which prompted Zamfara State to suspend mining operations.
In March 2021, Buhari agreed with the suggestion that mining operations in Zamfara State be suspended and established a no-fly zone there.
As a result of the terrorist assaults on the Kuje Correctional facility on July 5 as well as other incidents noted around the country, it was reported last year that the Federal Government was considering a ban on the use of motorbikes and mining activities.
During a recent news conference in Abuja, industry participants under the auspices of the Miners Association of Nigeria emphasized the necessity for the government to address the issue of increased insecurity.
