The importation of the good during the duty-free window has been blocked, and local rice millers have criticized the action, calling it discriminatory.

In order to lower the exorbitant price of food in the nation, the Agriculture Ministry permitted traders to import at least 600,000 tonnes of rice duty-free between February and August. Only traders have received shipping licenses from the government.

According to Agriculture PS Harsama Kerrow, traders should be permitted to ship in grain as well as millers do not have the only authority to import product.

“Milled rice is what we’ve authorized to be sent in, and any trader who satisfies the prerequisites can bring it because it’s rice that is ready for sale and doesn’t require milling,”
