According to Kon Bob-Manuel, a former general manager of shipping and terminal operations for the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation’s crude oil marketing division, Nigerian vessels are unable to participate in the lifting of crude oil because they are unable to meet international standards.

Bob-Manuel claimed that the crude oil market is a global industry in which one must adhere to international standards in order to participate. According to him, participating Nigerian vessels in the lifting of crude oil is not prohibited by law.

He declared, “You must adhere to international standards because the crude oil market is a global enterprise. But regrettably, there hasn’t been much of a presence for Nigerian vessels in this compliance.
