Tanzania has been challenged to maximize the value of its spectacular heritage resources. The country’s numerous sites of outstanding universal value can significantly boost tourism.

This was revealed at the start of an international conference on world heritage properties in this city. The two-day conference has been organized to provide training to African heritage professionals. To raise awareness of the importance of heritage resources, the minister challenged African countries to establish heritage training centers.

Tanzania has three Unesco World Heritage Sites: the Serengeti, Kilimanjaro, and Nyerere National Parks, as well as the Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA). Others include the Zanzibar Stone Town, the Kilwa Kisiwani-Songo Mnara ruins, and the Dodoma region’s Kondoa Rock Art.

Mr Suo, a Chinese embassy official in Tanzania lauded the Unesco for spearheading the conservation and development of the sites.
