According to a member of the Iranian parliament, the government intends to introduce new penalties for women who choose not to cover their heads in public, with those who disobey after receiving two warnings potentially having their bank accounts frozen.

According to Hossein Jalali, a member of the Islamic Consultative Assembly’s Cultural Commission, “unveiled persons” will first receive an SMS warning them to follow the law and wear a hijab, then they will go through a “warning phase,” and then their bank accounts may be frozen.
