In an effort to quell the growing employee dissatisfaction at the airline, national carrier Kenya Airways (KQ) aims to pay off the backlog of deferred pay checks totalling Sh6. 5 billion by the end of the next year.
The airline has been paying employees delayed salary since December 2021, and its chief people officer, Tom Shivo, said that the company is committed to paying the outstanding balance by the end of June.
Since April 2020, when the airline’s operations were impacted by the Covid -19 epidemic; the sum in default has accrued.
Following a string of significant losses, the airline has been struggling to meet its many commitments.
The Kenya Airline Pilots Association demanded last year that all postponed wages be paid; claiming that KQ had failed to do so.
