The Federal Government of Nigeria has stated that Nigeria is committed to developing greener shipping; in line with the International Maritime Organization’s goal to achieve sustainable growth in the maritime industry.

The Minister of Transportation, Mu’azu Sambo, was saying this in a statement by the Assistant Directors, Public Relations, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Osagie Edward, as the nation joins IMO to observe the 2022 World Maritime Day.

Sambo also emphasized the necessity for players in the marine industry to start looking into ways to transition into a greener and more sustainable future; while stating that Nigeria will not be behind in the global movement toward environmentally friendly shipping.

The subject for this year’s World Maritime Day celebration, according to NIMASA Director-General Dr. Bashir Jamoh, is in line with the organization’s goal of developing shipping in Nigeria while ensuring cleaner oceans.
“New technologies for greener shipping,” underlines the need to promote a green transition of the maritime industry; towards a sustainable future without leaving no one behind, according to the IMO Secretary General.
