Another nationwide strike is imminent in the power sector.

There are signs of a new strike approaching, after the recent country’s blackout was suspended. The government is allegedly unwilling to resolve the issue of unpaid rights to former employees of the disbanded Power Holding Company of Nigeria.

It was gathered that though other issues are progressing well, the issue of unpaid benefits was still a problem. In a recent meeting the workers said their socioeconomic standard in the power sector continued to decline.

Also, there were no apparent attempts by (GenCos) and distribution businesses (DisCos) to upgrade and expand their capacities/networks; “the same equipment inherited pre-privatization have remained what powers the sector.”

In their final remarks, they emphasized the pressing need for a more welcoming investment climate in the power sector.
