The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has reiterated its call to taxpayers in Kampala Metro Region to clear any outstanding taxes immediately to avoid inconveniences.
This was contained in a reposted public announcement released on Tuesday (February 22).
The tax body informed the general public that in accordance with Section 21 and 23 of the Tax Procedure Act, “URA is visiting business premises to issue assessments to all non-compliant tax payers in Kampala Central Business District and later this exercise will be extended to the rest of the country.”
The exercise got under way on January 20 and will go on throughout the year.
“You are advised to clear any outstanding taxes immediately to avoid inconvenience associated with recovery of unpaid taxes,” says URA.
“All taxpayers are hereby encouraged to declare and voluntarily pay their taxes to avoid being inconvenienced.”
The operation against tax defaulters comes after URA Commissioner General, John Musinguzi Rujoki, said earlier this month that they had registered a sh901b deficit in their revenue target between July and December 2021.
Musinguzi said that despite the deficits, tax collectors are collecting more revenue compared to the previous revenue collection calendar.
