OpenAI Targets $30 Billion Funding at $1.4 Trillion Valuation

0 72

OpenAI is reportedly seeking to raise at least $30 billion in fresh funding, in a deal that could push the artificial intelligence company’s valuation to about $1.4 trillion as it holds off on plans to go public this year. The proposed valuation, which excludes the new capital being raised, would mark another major jump for the ChatGPT maker and highlight the growing investor appetite for leading artificial intelligence companies.

According to Bloomberg, citing people familiar with the discussions, the fundraising is still at an early stage and the terms could change. The proposed deal is expected to serve as a bridge round, giving OpenAI additional capital to support its expansion while the company takes more time before pursuing an initial public offering (IPO). OpenAI previously raised $122 billion in March at an $852 billion valuation, including the capital raised.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has said the company still intends to become publicly listed but wants more time to prepare for the demands of operating as a public company. The decision comes as OpenAI navigates what Altman described as a new phase in AI development, including increased safety requirements. Meanwhile, OpenAI and rival AI company Anthropic are reportedly preparing for potential public listings, while competing aggressively for enterprise customers as businesses increase spending on generative AI.

The latest fundraising push comes as OpenAI reports rapid revenue growth and expands its AI product lineup. The company’s annualised revenue run rate reportedly surpassed $40 billion during the summer, with revenue increasing by about 70% since July. OpenAI has also introduced new products, including Dots, an always-on AI agent designed to handle more complex tasks, alongside a new $500 premium subscription tier offering higher usage limits and faster processing.

If completed at the proposed valuation, the latest funding round would represent a dramatic increase in OpenAI’s value over a relatively short period. The company was valued at $300 billion in April 2025, rose to a $730 billion pre-money valuation in February 2026, and reached $852 billion in March. A potential $1.4 trillion valuation would underscore how quickly investor expectations around OpenAI and the broader artificial intelligence industry have changed, while giving the company more financial firepower as it expands its products, infrastructure and enterprise business.
