Meta is making it easier for businesses to set up and manage WhatsApp Business with the help of artificial intelligence. The company has introduced a new WhatsApp Business Tools MCP server that allows AI agents to handle several technical and administrative tasks involved in connecting businesses to WhatsApp’s messaging platform.
The new system is designed to reduce the back-and-forth developers previously faced when setting up WhatsApp Business. Instead of moving between Meta’s Developer Console, Business Manager, API documentation and their coding environment, developers can now tell an AI agent what they want to accomplish and let it handle much of the setup process.
Through the new MCP server, AI coding assistants such as Claude, Cursor, Codex and ChatGPT can connect directly with the WhatsApp Business Platform. The AI agents can create a WhatsApp Business account, add and verify a business phone number, register access to the Cloud API and help businesses complete other requirements during the onboarding process.
The AI assistance does not stop at the initial setup. Businesses can also ask the agents to create or edit messaging templates, test messages and webhooks, and identify potential problems involving areas such as payment methods, business verification and acceptance of Meta’s Terms of Service. Meta said another MCP server, Meta Social Technologies MCP, can also help developers find API endpoints, search documentation and troubleshoot errors.
The move reflects Meta’s broader push to make its platforms easier for AI agents to interact with. As businesses increasingly rely on WhatsApp to communicate with customers, automating some of the technical work could make it simpler for companies and developers to get their messaging systems up and running. For businesses already using WhatsApp as a customer communication channel, the new tools could mean less time spent navigating setup processes and more time focused on serving customers.
